This is my original work for the Hailstone Sequence. I used this equation:
(EN = Even Number) (ON = Odd Number) EN/2 OD*3+1 At first I thought that 124 was going to be easy, but then it took me about half an hour to finish. 100 seemed easy enough so I decided to go up by a few numbers. It wasn't the best idea. After that, I decided to test if a random high number was going to be the same. I chose 10732. It was long, but not as long as I expected it to be. |
On the left I wrote the original sequence, and the number 100 from the image above for an example. Then I chose a new sequence. The new sequence was EN/2 and ON*5+1. After a few lines of numbers, I decided to throw a white flag. I figured that it could go on forever and I would never know, so continuing seemed tedious.
On the right I have the second sequence. The sequence was EN/2 and ON+1. I figured an easy equation would be able to work, and it did. It was solved after a few numbers. |
